Senator Ashford article on combating youth crime and violence |
![]() The flow of millions of immigrants illegally into Nebraska and the broader United States has had a far-reaching impact on many aspects of life for many Nebraskans. Regrettably, the U.S. Congress and the President have neglected to fully and effectively implement a secure, orderly, and economically sensible immigration system. As a result, members of the public and community leaders in Nebraska have begun calling on state government to do what it can to mitigate the adverse consequences of illegal immigration. Recognizing the need for a thoughtful, comprehensive state approach to addressing illegal immigration, state Senator Brad Ashford of Omaha's 20th Legislative District introduced and gained the April 2008 passage of Legislative Resolution 362 for the purpose of carrying out an in-depth study of illegal immigration in Nebraska as well as for the development of possible legislation addressing the matter. This study will include meetings with representatives from law enforcement, the business community, organized labor, non-profits, and the education community. Meetings are currently being planned for the following dates and locations:
